Light remedy alarm clocks can run fairly expensive, but spend inadequate and you conclude buying low-quality alarm clocks that may not are effectively. The Philips HF3520 Wake-Up Light is a high-quality product for a mid-range price. The combo of subtle design and fairly easy alarm options make it a great choice for individuals who not merely want a solid noisy alarms, but the one which also doubles as a bedside reading light.

Top Listing

Design: Sleek but large
At 9.9 inches by 4.6 inches by 9.2 inches (HWD), the Philips HF3520 Wake-Up Light is probably the greatest wake-up clocks that you can buy. It’s also among the clunkiest, weighing 3.6 pounds. Whenever we pulled it from its box, we quickly were surprised by the weight. Regardless of the clunky dimensions, it can have a sleek, round design and strong rubber feet to keep it from slipping off your bedside table. Do remember that if you have a tiny bedside table, you might find it to become a cramped fit.

Setup Process: Quick to plug in, longer to configure
The HF3520 includes two components: the noisy alarms, and the AC adapter, no assembly required. Since there are no USB ports or auxiliary plugs, simply insert the AC adapter in to the clock and plug it in to the wall and it turns on. Heads up, though – there is absolutely no backup power option or built-in battery so If the energy is out, the alarm won’t function.

Configuring the HF3520 clock proved fairly easy aside from a stumble. It began by wanting us to create enough time in bright orange, easy-to-read numbers, that was easy – until we realized that it wanted us to create it in 24-hour time. We tested it before bed, so we’d to double check to be sure we woke through to time. Thankfully, you can swap 24 for 12-hour cycles after the time is established and the house interfaces pops up.

Once the clock is established, the house Interface and side buttons are incredibly simple to locate and use. The house interface has four touch buttons: a Minus button, the Menu, Select, and an advantage button. Pressing Menu supplies the following options: home interface brightness, two alarms, alarm sounds, and time. The medial side buttons control the bulb’s brightness and the Radio. Almost all of the fine-tuning of the HF3520 should come out of this menu. Physical buttons along the rim turn the light on/off, start the Radio, and turn the alarm on or off.

The HF3520 sports two separate alarm systems, in order to awaken on weekdays and weekends at differing times. A good perk is that the alarm time flashes for ten seconds after we pressed the button, and we’re able to quickly change enough time instead of feel the home interface again.

Using the Alarm: Day light to wake up
The Philips HF3520 sports five different alarm sounds: two birdsongs, calming music, waves, and the Radio. The volume offers you options up to level 20, as does the brightness levels, providing you lots of different alternatives to customize your alarm. One problematic drawback, however, is that people cannot set the alarm until we ran the alarm test which required us to press and contain the alarm button on the rim for three seconds. This feature demonstrates the complete alarm process by cycling through all of the alarms over a 90-second interval, but maddeningly, won’t turn itself off until you press and contain the Alarm button for another three seconds.

The HF3520 sports two separate alarm systems, to help you awaken on weekdays and weekends at differing times.

One nice quality about the HF3520 is that the lights don’t automatically activate when the alarm begins; instead, it little by little brightens using signature red, orange, and yellow hues until your selected sounds get started at alarm time. The music quality is actually a little crisper and more finely tuned, but it’s still a nice, clear sound that’s less harsh compared to the shrill alarms you’re probably used to.

We were also keen on the actual fact that tapping the rim top snoozes the alarm for a supplementary nine minutes, providing you time for you to soak in the light which remains on during snooze. After nine minutes, the music slowly but surely commences again, rising in volume until it reaches the preset level.

Extras: Radios, reading lights, and bedtime features
Apart from its primary purpose as an alarm, the Philips 3520 also includes other useful features. It has basic Radio capabilities, but lacks USB or auxiliary ports. We also tested out the reading light capabilities, and could actually read by the LED bulb easily after we adjusted the brightness level to 20. Any lower and we’d have strained our eyes reading a difficult copy book, nonetheless it would be a great option for a night light on less setting.

The HF3520 also has a very convenient bedtime feature: simply press the “zzz’s” button privately, set enough time for from 5-60 minutes, set the sound, and end your entire day as the bulb simulates a setting sun with shades of vibrant yellows, oranges, and red.

The Philip’s has a sizable price tag, but considering its amenities weighed against competitors, it’s worth the price.

Price: An excellent bargain for a mid-range product
At a $139.99 MSRP, the HF3520 at the center of the pack for wake-up alarm clocks. When you can certainly get yourself a cheaper option such as a Totobay Wake-Up Light at under $30, you sacrifice the features that produce this a good gadget, such as audio tracks quality, the reading light option, and the orange and red hues that help simulate a sunrise. The Philip’s has a huge price tag, but considering its amenities weighed against competitors, it’s worth the price.

Philips HF3520 Wake-Up Light vs. the Philips Somneo
The Philips HF3520 Wake-Up Light includes a pricier, fancier sister that you can buy: the Philips Somneo clock. At $199.99, the Somneo is more costly compared to the HF3520, but includes extra features to pay. The Somneo offers seven different alarm sounds, as the HF3520 offers five. In addition, it has USB ports for phone charging and hearing your selected Spotify playlists via the 3.5mm audio tracks jack. If these extras aren’t a major deal, then your HF3520 will be the better option, because you still get the same great audio tracks and gradual brightening features. If every amenity is a must-have, then your Somneo may be the right option for you personally.
