The Tripp Trapp has been going strong since its launch over 40 years back in 1972, where it revolutionised the children’s chair category, becoming an iconic and recognisable piece that is still a company favourite with parents worldwide.

A fantastically clever and functional furniture piece which can be adjusted to adjust to your child because they grow, taking them from birth to teens and beyond.

Stokke is renowned because of its cool, functional, ergonomic Scandinavian designs, and pride themselves on the human centric focus method of designing their products.

The very best interest of children reaches the heart of the company’s philosophy, concentrating on the value that they have to have a feeling of reference to their loved kinds to feel safe and sound.

That is why a parent facing approach is taken toward a lot of their products, like the Tripp Trapp.

Founded in 1932 on the west coast of Norway and specialising in seating solutions, it wasn’t until 1972 with the unveiling of the Tripp Trapp created by Peter Opsvik, that Stokke commenced its foray in to the world of children’s furniture.

This expanded in the 90’s and resulted in the launch of their first stroller, the Xplory in 2003.

Since 2006 they have focused solely on creating premium children’s furniture & equipment and so are now market leader across several categories in lots of countries.

I have always been just a little envious of these friends of mine who’ve had Tripp Trapps and also have got a bit more excited than I will have already been on several occasions when visiting any eateries that provided them!

They scream Scandi-chic. Practical, stylish, clean lines and functionality, always found gracing the pages of baby/child magazine shoots looking effortlessly cool. (sigh!)

I possibly could not wait to give it a try with my three children aged 5 months, 24 months and 4 years old, and see if it lived up to my glossy expectations.

What’s in the Box?

Just the parts had a need to make the essential Tripp Trapp chair (rather than forgetting an Allen key!)

How is assembling the Tripp Trapp?

It took virtually no time at all to place the Tripp Trapp together, the eight pieces which come in the compact box all slot and screw as well as ease, I was actually quite surprised that I did so it in ten minutes!

The instructions are of help (easy to check out images), and only need to be glanced at to get a feel for what should be done.

First impressions?

Once it had been up, it looked great, very strong and robust. I loved the Storm Grey colour, it built in well with the décor of my home (matched the tiled floor and carpets!).

Is it simple to use?

Yes, I started utilizing the Newborn Set (suitable from birth to half a year), the seat unit just clicks to the chair and may be removed just as easily.

The red/green indicators on the sides of the seat demonstrate when it’s mounted correctly. In addition, it includes a removable arm that small toys could be mounted on, to keep baby entertained in addition to a couple of extended gliders.

These help to improve the backward stability of the chair (it is suggested they are being used with the Stokke Harness, Newborn & Baby Set).

I then used the infant Set (ideal for 6 months- three years) with my youngest daughter. It really is again simple to fit to the chair, and just clicks into place.

The Stokke Harness can be utilised with this set for smaller children (there is absolutely no way my 2 year old would entertain the thought of it!).

How secure may be the Tripp Trapp?

The harness is simple to use and appears very secure. I did so however think it is fiddly to change the distance of the straps.

Plus some comfortable shoulder pads to cover the straps will be ideal (they are only available with the excess textile set) specifically for younger babies.

When working with it with my youngest daughter, she loved the actual fact she could sit at the table, and I liked the actual fact her legs weren’t dangling (and more likely to kick or push against anything) as her feet rested nicely on the foot plate.

There was an instant when she pushed her feet against the table leg (my heart was in my own mouth!), but because of the gliders she cannot push the chair backwards (phew!)

Is it simple to clean?

Yes, that is a positive thing because it is quite simple to get dirty! I came across the fabric of the cover (which is quite soft and comfy) was such as a magnet for attracting dust, fluff and other bits that was accentuated by its light beige colour, meaning it looked grubby easily (I committed to a lint roller to tackle this matter!).

The covers are removable and washable, which is fantastic although better coloured stains may be visible.

How comfortable may be the chair?

My little boy who’s five-months-old, looked just a little big in the seat although he still seemed very comfortable, and even feel asleep in it many times!

I loved the actual fact he could sit with me at meal times at eye level therefore i could connect to him.

Finally I adjusted the Tripp Trapp so my four-year-old daughter might use it. Like her sister, she really was chuffed that she could sit at the table without needing to kneel on a chair or use a booster cushion.

She said it had been comfy, but after drawing at the table for 40mins said her bum hurt somewhat (so investing in a Stokke Cushion could be an excellent option). She did however say she felt such as a ‘grown up’ sitting in ‘her new chair’.

May be the Tripp Trapp portable?

Not really, since it is a solid furniture piece, it is not easy and simple to go about from room to room (if needed), since it is pretty weighty, and if you do, I would suggest removing the gliders first (I clipped the entranceway ways and paint work several times before I worked this out!).

How does it compare to other chairs you’ve used?

Weighed against other highchairs I’ve used, the Tripp Trapp has been above par and a welcome change.

I have been very much accustomed to cheaper highchair styles all legs & tray tables and suitable limited to a brief period (the Ikea Antilop being my last purchase) that it had been nice to have something I classed as a genuine piece of furniture.

I must say i enjoyed the interaction the Tripp Trapp allowed me to have with my children at the table, and it had been nice to observe how much they enjoyed it too.

Is the chair affordability?

The Tripp Trapp Chair itself costs £159 however the total starts to mount up after getting bought the accessories you will need (the infant Set and harness are virtually essential), so it won’t suit everyone’s budget.

MadeForMums verdict?

This is a premium product with first class prices, but it can be an investment. This is a sleek, smart, adaptable furniture piece which should stand the test of time and comfortably sit your baby until they are, well, not little! I would suggest it to any parent buying a good highchair who’s willing t
