About Bushnell Outdoor Products

From humble beginnings, Bushnell is currently just about the most recognized and reputable sports optics brand on the planet.

Everything all started back 1948 when Bushnell first commenced life as a tiny mail-order binocular company. Since that time the business has grow to be what we have now know as Bushnell Outdoor Products that not merely produce binoculars, but 15 other products with 11 brands that add a very varied selection of products. For instance their Golf Range Finders.

One feature that remains at the core of the Bushnell brand may be the concentrate on the outside with the vast majority of their products are linked to this sector.

They provide binoculars, scopes, night vision devices and other products for some outdoor pursuits including: spectator sports, nature study (wildlife viewing), hunting, fishing birding and stargazing.

Situated in Kansas, the Bushnell brand is probably the most popular in the binoculars and optics industry and I’d say one among the leaders in mid to high-performance sports optics.

They have a respected market share in every of the sports optics categories, and their products have constantly won design and performance awards from prestigious organizations.

Not resting on past successes, Bushnell® are constantly exploring emerging technologies in optics along with other outdoor products with the purpose of combining industry leading design with performance innovation.

The Bushnell Mission Statement

“To build up and market superior optical products that improve the connection with outdoor and sports enthusiasts”

Bushnell Binocular Range

With now more than 50 years in the optics industry and being among the greatest players in the market, Bushnell have an enormous range to pick from and each year most of them get updated an changed. So that it may also be hard to keep track and continue!

However if you exclude almost all their very cheapest pairs, Bushnell generally speaking offer what I believe is good value for the money generally. There are of course exceptions, that i aim to explain for you.

Bushnell Legend Ultra HD Binoculars

Among Bushnell’s most popular series may be the Legend Ultra HD and with today’s stylish finish, impressive features, great stats and relatively low priced, it is simple to see why:

Main Highlights

  • Fully Multi-coated Optics
  • Extra-low Dispersion (ED) Glass
  • Phase Correction Coatings on Bak-4 Roof Prism Models
  • Magnesium Body on some models
  • Rainguard Lens Coating

The make use of ED Prime glass factors within their lenses really helps to minimize color fringing which causes improved color resolution and contrast in the image you see. The optics on the Legend Ultra HD are also fully multi-coated with Bushnell’s Ultra Wide Band coating which drastically enhances light transmission in comparison to uncoated or only partly coated bins. Phase Correction coatings are also put on the BaK-4 roof prism models.

The bigger models are tripod adaptable and also have a lightweight Magnesium body that’s both water and fogproof.

Small touches and further signs of their quality add a locking diopter and a water repellent coating externally lenses that not merely mean you get an improved view in wet weather, but ensure dirt, grime and oil is less inclined to stick on the glass keeping them clean for longer so when you do need to clean them, you will be less vigorous which ensures you do not scratch them.

Bushnell Excursion HD Binoculars

By Bushnell’s standards, that is a little series since it contains only two models, an 8×42 and a 10×42.

Whilst small, the Excursion HD series can be an interesting one and specifically the 8×42 model is really worth going for a very close look at for anyone who is enthusiastic about a binocular which has a very wide field of view (see stats below), yet continues to be what I’d call relatively inexpensive.

The open bridge body condition and their unique design on the rubber armor gives this series a reasonably modern and aggressive look, but also serves a work as it provides an excellent form to carry onto when carrying your instrument about in a single hand.

Lockable Focus Wheel

Probably probably the most interesting features on these Bushnell Excursion HD binoculars is their lockable central focus wheels. They work similarly as binoculars which may have a diopter adjustment on the central focus dial.

So to improve focus, you pull the wheel back and it unlocks, after that you can give attention to different objects at different distances as normal. To lock your focus set up you click it back inwards.

Personally I have never had a should do this, but I am certain there are users out there who like the focus to stay fixed at some distance without the change of it being changed unintentionally.

As you’ll expect, they are o-ring sealed and so watertight and filled up with nitrogen gas, the optics inside are resistant to fogging.

Both models are tripod adaptable and also have the right eye diopter adjustment wheel, together with twist-up eye-cups.

Optics

The optical system is fully multi-coated, which ensures as much light as possible passes through each factor within the complete pathway.

The roof prisms used are fashioned from high quality BaK-4 glass plus they are phase corrected. Bushnell however usually do not specify what mirror coating is employed on them. My suspicion reaches this price they’ll oftimes be silver coated which is okay.
